Autumn

Ornamental Grass

October can have some quite chilly nights but when the sun is rising it reveals all its beauty. So time to show you the magic moments of this month.

Tranquillity is returning

Sunny days are often starting with a hazy morning and as a result, a blanket of white mist hangs above the meadows. Sometimes you can hardly see the funnel of the Viller Mühle. Most crops are harvested by the local farmers and after celebrating their Erntedank (a kind of Thanksgiving Day) tranquillity is finally returning. The silence is only broken by the flapping wings of a disturbed dove who lift off from the magnolia to take flight in the crisp air. Also, the swallows are gathering for their return to Central Afrika.

“ The sun is warming my face and when I look along the Long Border I see the flowers of the ornamental grasses backlit by low sunshine.”

Boston Ivy

Around noon the bleak sun has gathered some strength to enjoy a cup of coffee in a sheltered corner. The sun is warming my face and when I look along the Long Border I see the flowers of the ornamental grasses backlit by low sunshine. It is also the time of spider webs and their structure is emphasized by the hazy weather conditions. Leafs of the Boston Ivy is turning into orange, red and purple. Within a few weeks, they are all on the ground but harvested for the compost heap.
